Nivelli - Magician Of The Holocaustby William V. Rauscher The author first saw Herbert Nivelli perform his act in Philadelphia in 1970. He was assisted by his wife, Lottie. While talking with Nivelli in the dressing area backstage Rauscher noticed a tattoo on Nivelli's arm. The magician was marked forever with the number A1676. The Great Nivelli had survived the horrors of Auschwitz. Only by continuously performing magic with anything from a pebble to a thread was he able to delay his death by the guards who enjoyed magic. Magic saved his life! He came to America in 1947. He performed magic professionally for the rest of his life until his death in May 1977. |
